naples - pompei and amalfi coast
Whole day tour the spectacular costal road. Panoramic stop just above Positano, short visit of the village with its orginal and handcraft and beach wear fashion shops. Optional visit on the way to Amalfi, of the Grotta dello Smeraldo. Then on to Amalfi,originally Roman, was the first Marine Republic of Italy. Visit of the old city-centre, with the outstanding Duomo, built in the 6th century and dedicated to St. Andrew. Free time for shopping and eating out. From Amalfi, we drive to Ravello, which nestes eleven hundred feet above the sea level in the mountainside. Visit of Villa Rufolo which gave to the musician Richard Wagner the inspiration to create some of his most famous works. From here you can enjoy views of the whole luminous Bay of Salerno.
Half day tour to the ruined city. Drive along the Sorrento costal road to Pompei. Following the great eruption of Mount Vesuvius in the year 79 A.D. Pompei laid buried for hundred of years. Rediscovered in the 18th century, you can now see the aspect of life of 2000 years ago, preserved by the volcanic ash thrown out from the Vesuvius. Trough some of the ancient streets of Pompei you can see either Baths, Forums and Villas built by the prosperous Romans in the year 80 B. C. or tenements of the poors, the butcher, the baker and even brothels. Free time for shopping and eating out, before taking the way back to Sorrento.
Whole day tour, from Sorrento one-hour drive along the costal road to Castellammare di Stabia and from amnd from there on the motrway to Napoli. The City of Naples was foundede in 600 B. C. by the Greeks, and the Romans took over in 320 B.C. It is an historical City, full of monuments, churches, building dating back centuries. The national Museum, which is one of the best archeological museum in the world, most of the treasures are from Pompei and Herculaneum and have been transferred there for safe keeping. There is also a priceless collection of paintings and bronze works. After visiting the Museum, we stop at the heart of a lively quarter of the City, popularly known as “Spaccanapoli” to visit some of the most beautiful churches. The Church of Santa Chiara, with its fascinating majolica cloister in rococo-style, the Church of Gesù Nuovo with the astonishing richness of its floral marble decorations.
